Overview
How ultrasound-based facials work
Ultrasound-based facials like Dermasound use a device that vibrates at a very high frequency, far above what the ear can hear. When the tip is glided across damp skin, the vibration turns the water into a fine mist and gently loosens dead skin cells, oil and debris from the surface. This process is often called ultrasonic exfoliation, or skin scrubbing.
The second part of the treatment uses a different setting to help products absorb. Once the skin is clean and exfoliated, serums and moisturisers are applied and the vibrating tip is passed over them, which is designed to help them work into the skin rather than sitting on the surface. The result many people notice is skin that feels clean, soft and well hydrated.
Treatment benefits
Why clients choose dermasound with us
- 01
Gentle exfoliation
Ultrasonic vibration loosens dead skin and debris without scrubbing, which can suit people who find physical exfoliation too harsh.
- 02
Cleaner-looking pores
The vibrating tip, used with water or a mist, helps lift oil and residue from the surface, so pores can look cleaner.
- 03
Helps skincare absorb
After exfoliation, the ultrasonic setting is typically used to help serums and moisturisers work into the skin rather than sitting on top.
- 04
Comfortable to sit through
Most people feel only a light tingle or buzzing, and many find the treatment relaxing.
How it works
What happens at your appointment

Skin check and cleanse
We ask about your skin and routine, then cleanse to remove make-up and surface oil.
Ultrasonic exfoliation
With the skin kept damp, a flat metal tip vibrating at ultrasonic frequency is glided across the face at a shallow angle to loosen dead skin and lift debris.
Product application
Serums or treatment products suited to your skin are applied, and the device is used on a different setting to help them work into the skin.
Finish and protect
The treatment finishes with moisturiser and, for daytime appointments, sun protection.
What to expect
Who Dermasound suits
Dermasound suits people who want a deep clean but find scrubs, brushes or stronger exfoliation too much. Because there are no abrasive tips or blades, it is often a good fit for skin that is sensitive to friction, and for anyone who wants a gentle treatment before an event. Congested skin can also benefit from the pore-clearing effect.
If you want a stronger exfoliation, microdermabrasion buffs the skin more firmly, while the Deluxe Deep Cleanse Facial takes a more hands-on approach to clearing congestion. We can recommend which one fits your skin at your appointment.
Aftercare
Aftercare is simple. Your skin may look a little pink straight after, which usually settles quickly. Keep your routine gentle for the rest of the day, avoid strong actives and exfoliants for a day or two, and wear sunscreen when you go outside.
If you are booked in for laser hair removal or other facial treatments, tell us so we can space them sensibly and avoid irritating the skin.

FAQ
Dermasound questions
What is Dermasound?
Dermasound is an ultrasound-based facial treatment. It uses high-frequency vibration to gently exfoliate and clean the skin, then helps skincare products absorb. It is non-invasive and uses no blades or abrasives.
Does Dermasound hurt?
No, most people feel only a light tingle, buzz or gentle warmth. The skin is kept damp throughout, and the tip glides across the surface. Many clients find it relaxing.
Is Dermasound the same as microdermabrasion?
No, they exfoliate in different ways. Dermasound uses ultrasonic vibration and water, while microdermabrasion buffs the skin with an abrasive surface and suction. Dermasound is generally the gentler of the two.
Is there downtime after Dermasound?
There is usually little to no downtime. Skin may be slightly pink for a short time afterwards. Most people carry on with their day straight away.
How often should I have a Dermasound treatment?
Many people book every few weeks as part of a regular skin routine, or before an event. How often depends on your skin and goals. We can suggest a schedule after your first visit.
