Dermaplaning in Liverpool

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that uses a fine, sterile blade to gently remove dead skin cells and fine facial hair, often called peach fuzz. It leaves the skin feeling smoother and helps make-up sit more evenly. It is quick, non-invasive and usually has little downtime.

Overview

What dermaplaning removes, and what it doesn’t

Dermaplaning removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells and the fine vellus hair on the face. That is why skin feels so smooth afterwards and why make-up often looks better. It works on the surface only, so it is a gentle exfoliation rather than a resurfacing treatment, and it will not change deeper concerns such as scarring or pigmentation conditions.

A common worry is that the hair will grow back thicker or darker. Removing vellus hair this way does not change the follicle, so hair does not grow back thicker. It can feel slightly blunter as it regrows, because the tip has been cut rather than tapered, but it returns as the same fine, light hair.

Dermaplaning is not a treatment for coarse, dark facial hair. If you have darker hair on the chin, upper lip or jawline, facial laser hair removal is designed to reduce that kind of growth over time.

Treatment benefits

Why clients choose dermaplaning with us

  1. 01

    Smoother skin surface

Removing the top layer of dead cells leaves skin feeling soft and smooth to the touch straight after treatment.

  2. 02

    Make-up sits better

Without peach fuzz and flaky patches, foundation and powder tend to go on more evenly and look less cakey.

  3. 03

    Removes fine facial hair

Dermaplaning clears the fine, light hair that laser usually cannot treat because it has too little pigment.

  4. 04

    Quick and low downtime

The treatment is quick, and most people have little or no redness afterwards.

How it works

What happens at your appointment

Treatment consultation between a practitioner and a client
  1. Step 01

    Skin check

We look at your skin and ask about active skincare, breakouts and recent treatments to make sure dermaplaning is suitable today.

  2. Step 02

    Cleanse and dry

Your skin is cleansed and dried thoroughly, since the blade works best on clean, dry skin.

  3. Step 03

    Dermaplaning

Holding the skin taut, a sterile single-use blade is stroked gently across the face at a shallow angle to lift dead skin and fine hair. Active breakouts are avoided.

  4. Step 04

    Hydrate and protect

The skin is finished with a soothing, hydrating product and sun protection for daytime appointments.

What to expect

Dermaplaning compared with microdermabrasion

Dermaplaning and microdermabrasion both exfoliate, but they suit different goals. Dermaplaning uses a blade and removes peach fuzz along with dead skin, which makes it popular before events and for anyone whose make-up catches on fine hair. Microdermabrasion buffs the skin with an abrasive surface and suction, and does not remove hair.

Our guide to dermaplaning vs microdermabrasion goes into more detail. Many people alternate between the two, or pair dermaplaning with a facial, and we can help you plan a sensible routine.

Aftercare and timing

Freshly dermaplaned skin is more sensitive to the sun and to active products, so wear sunscreen daily and avoid exfoliating acids, retinoids and scrubs for a few days. Keep your hands off your face and use clean make-up brushes if you apply make-up afterwards.

Most people book dermaplaning every few weeks, giving the skin time to renew between treatments. If you are having laser hair removal on the face, let us know so treatments can be spaced apart and your skin is not over-exfoliated.

Will my hair grow back thicker after dermaplaning?

No, dermaplaning does not make hair grow back thicker or darker. It removes fine vellus hair at the surface without changing the follicle. The hair may feel slightly blunt as it regrows, but it returns as the same fine hair.

Does dermaplaning hurt?

Dermaplaning is usually comfortable. Most people feel a light scraping or brushing sensation as the blade moves across the skin. There should be no pain.

Can I have dermaplaning if I have acne?

Dermaplaning is not recommended over active breakouts, as it can irritate them and spread bacteria. If you have acne, talk to us first and we may suggest a different treatment. For ongoing acne, please see your GP or a dermatologist.

Is dermaplaning the same as shaving my face?

Not quite. Both remove hair at the surface, but dermaplaning is done in clinic with a sterile blade and a technique designed to lift dead skin cells as well. The result is a more thorough exfoliation than shaving at home.

How often should I have dermaplaning?

Many people book every few weeks, allowing the skin time to renew between treatments. How often suits you depends on your skin and how it responds. We will recommend a schedule after your first treatment.

Can dermaplaning replace laser for facial hair?

Dermaplaning removes fine, light hair temporarily, while laser is designed to reduce darker, coarser hair over a course of sessions. They suit different hair types. We can advise which is right for you.
